Qualifications In order to qualify for this position, your resume must provide sufficient experience and/or education, knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are being considered. Applicants must meet the following Basic Requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must possess a Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree in industrial hygiene, occupational health sciences, occupational and environmental health, toxicology, safety sciences, or related science that was accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the US Department of Education at the time my degree was obtained. (Note - Courses in the history or teaching of chemistry are not acceptable); OR possess a Bachelor's degree in a branch of engineering, physical science, or life science that included 12 semester hours in chemistry, including organic chemistry, and 18 additional semester hours of courses in any combination of chemistry, physics, engineering, health physics, environmental health, biostatistics, biology, physiology, toxicology, epidemiology, or industrial hygiene. The degree was accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the US Department of Education at the time my degree was obtained. (Note - Courses in the history or teaching of chemistry are not acceptable); OR possess a Certification from the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH). In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS -09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following for GS -11: Using industrial hygiene concepts, principles, and practices to evaluate and control physical and chemical hazards such as noise, non-ionizing radiation, ventilation, various chemicals/heavy metals, ergonomic stressors within a workplace environment; utilizing and calibrating industrial hygiene measurement equipment such as high/low flow air sampling pumps, velometers, noise dosimeters, sound level meters, indoor air quality meters, infrared analyzers, and moisture meters to evaluate occupational health stressors; providing recommendations to eliminate or reduce personnel exposures to chemical and physical agents within work environments. OR Three years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work. COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Education and experience may be combined to meet the total qualification requirements. GS -12: Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS -11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Using industrial hygiene concepts, principles, and practices to evaluate and control physical and chemical hazards such as noise, non-ionizing radiation , ventilation, various chemicals/heavy metals, ergonomic stressors within a workplace environment; performing complex inspections with limited direction or supervision; utilizing and calibrating industrial hygiene measurement equipment such as high/low flow air sampling pumps, velometers, noise dosimeters, sound level meters, indoor air quality meters, infrared analyzers, and moisture meters to evaluate environment stresses; develop training programs on industrial hygiene and occupational health issues; providing recommendations to eliminate or reduce personnel exposures to chemical and physical agents within work environments. Certification: ABIH Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)" is desired, but not required."
