Description: In collaboration w/ Quality, Service&Safety (QSS), assists w/ the development, planning, management, integration & evaluation/improvement of patient safety & clinical risk management programs, including aspects of employee & environmental safety for the hospital. Ensures the alignment & integration of patient safety & clinical risk management programs, standards, policies, procedures, processes & systems for the hospital in accordance w/ Regional strategic / business plans, national & regional patient safety, employee safety & risk management objectives & related quality, service & performance improvement agendas. Participates in goal development driven by national & regional priorities. Oversee the creation, review, & refinement of the scope of the Patient Safety Program w/in the facility on an annual basis. Coordinates & manages patient safety & clinical risk management performance improvement programs / activities for the hospital in collaboration w/ Regional & local leadership. Develops action plans identified through root cause analysis. Integrates clinical information systems, processes & technology into operational workflows to insure compliance w/ regulatory requirements, quality & patient safety initiatives. Leads Meaningful Use (MU) workflows & initiatives to assure the targets & goals for MU Eligible Hospitals (EH) requirements are met. Contributes to technological advancements that enhance patient quality, service, & safety.

Essential Functions:
- Develops, implements, & evaluates effective patient safety, employee safety, & clinical risk management goals, initiatives, programs, policies, standards, practices, & procedures consistent w/ organizational objectives, the KP Promise & KP's Br& Strategy.
- Provides operational leadership & consultation to leadership & Care Delivery areas on clinical risk management, patient safety, employee safety, & environmental safety related practices, programs, initiatives, & tactics across the continuum of care.
- Partners w/ Quality, Safety&Service (QSS) in developing goals & initiatives driven by national & regional priorities. Conveys shared leadership messages to reflect joint executive sponsorship & consistency in messaging.
- Engages w/ QSS in process ownership, addressing issues, removing obstacles, & delegating responsibilities to liaison roles & forums.
- Establishes collaborative working relationships w/ a diverse group of stakeholders in order to identify & institute enhanced safety & risk management practices based on evidence-based outcomes, internal & external benchmarking & industry standards.
- Champions new ways of meeting targets &/or goals by identifying, anticipating & planning for future issues or problems. Facilitates the rapid transfer of best practices via knowledge based information systems, resources & support information.
- Achieves outcomes related to identified goals & objectives, as well as, minimizing, reducing, eliminating or preventing injures or loss exposure resulting from unusual occurrences, sentinel events & malpractice & employment law claims; ensures the quality of care provided to members, patients, employees in Hawaii; aligning/integrating clinical risk management programs, processes & systems at the Medical Center w/ Regional & organizational goals/objectives, as well as w/ established clinical standards.
- Provides &/or coordinates resources, supplies, staff, equipment, & financing needed to achieve outcome.
- Reports medical errors & near misses, as well as corrective actions taken.

Basic Qualifications:
- Minimum five (5) years of experience in managing clinical services, clinical service line(s) or clinical operations in a multiple facility health care system, including responsibility for clinical risk management, patient safety and performance / quality improvement.
- Bachelor's degree in nursing, health services administration, business or public administration or public health OR four (4) years of experience in a directly related field.
License, Certification, Registration
- Valid Hawaii RN license (must meet education requirement(s) for Hawaii State licensure).
- Current BLS for Healthcare Provider CPR or CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer certification.

Additional Requirements:
- Demonstrated ability to analyze, interpret, develop, implement and evaluate safety and risk management standards, policies, and processes.
- Demonstrated ability to utilize the principles, practices, methodology's and qualitative and quantitative analytical techniques including risk identification, program design and evaluation, risk assessment, audit design and evaluation of risk management processes and systems.
- Demonstrated ability to utilize verbal and written communication skills, facilitation skills and presentation skills.
- Demonstrated ability to utilize critical thinking, influencing, negotiating, problem solving, and analytical skills.
- Ability to demonstrate proficiency in team building, project management , conflict resolution, change leadership, systems thinking, group interaction, results orientation and budget management, as well as the ability to utilize an open, collaborative leadership style that promotes teamwork and partnership while achieving desired results.
- Must be able to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in nursing, health services administration, business or public administration or public health OR six (6) year's experience in a directly related field.
- Certification as a Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management (CPHRM).
- Previous employment with Kaiser Permanente preferred, particularly in working across entity boundaries and with multi-disciplinary teams to successfully achieve business results and common goals.
- Demonstrated knowledge of hospital/HMO/medical office operations and practices, KP operations and competitors and economic, social, and legal environment.
